In an attempt to resume the life-saving act of daily writing, I’ll be starting a two week writing challenge. I’ll make up the rules as I go since I wasn’t able to find any online that I actually liked.
- I’ll aim to write one post a day for two weeks.
- I am not going to be too picky about length of each post or content or even topic. I’ll be aiming to write something every day, wether it’s a few words or a few paragraphs. The point is to write.
- I’m allowing captioned photos (I make the rules so why not) and I’ll also allow ONE quote day (aka a lazy day) where I’ll just paste a quote that I’ve heard or read recently that has touched me in some way (because good inspiration always leads to good writing)
The point is to make the act of writing (and reading of literature) a more regular, routine-like task that comes to me more easily. I am trying to develop ways to make writing second nature, like it used to be and actually take the time to mark thoughts by putting them into words with some kind of eloquence. I’ll also take on the exercise of editing previous pieces of writing that I’ve done to see if they can be improved (they can always be improved).
On that note, some vintage Rumi:
To those who do not feel this love pulling them like a river,
those who do not drink dawn like a cup of springwater
or take in sunset like supper
those who do not want to change –
let them sleep.
This love is beyond the study of theology,
of old trickery and hypocrisy.
If you want to improve your mind that way,
sleep on.
I have given up on my brain, I have torn the cloth to shreds and thrown it away.
If you are not completely naked,
wrap your beautiful robe of words around you,
and sleep.
